Yoonjung Han
The first concert of the pianist Yoonjung Han at the Steinway Hall, in London, on February 9th, was "a great success", according to Mrs. Noretta Conci-Leech, Artistic Director of "The Keyboard Trust", foundation that granted the "Prize for Career Development" to Yoonjung Han at the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina.

Alexander Ghindin
Alexander Ghindin, 1st Prize in the “I International Piano Competition de SC”, triumphed in a performance with the Symphonic Orchestra of Jerusalem, on August 19, in Rio de Janeiro. Under the direction of the Israeli maestro Yeruham Scharovsky, Ghidin performed Concert No. 2 by Rachmaninov for piano and orchestra. The public that filled the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro was enraptured by the impressive performance of one of the most traditional concertos of the piano repertoire. The pianist will perform again on Sunday (August 22) at Sala São Paulo, one of the most renowned concerto rooms in Latin America. The concerts of the Brazilian tournée of the Israeli orchestra are being organized by the Chopin Society of Brazil and Ghindin’s participation is the result of his recent winning participation in the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina.

Announcement II
The Organizing Committee of the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina has the pleasure to announce the pre-selected candidates who will participate in the final tests in the city of Florianópolis/Brazil, from July 3rd to July 10th, 2010. More than 100 registrations were received from 26 countries. It was a very difficult task for the pre-selection jury to choose the semifinalists due to the very high level of the candidates. Next you will find the list of the pre-selected candidates who will represent 13 countries.

The Organizing Committee of the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina is pleased to communicate that more than ninety registrations were received from all over the world. Unfortunately, some registrations, even though posted within the legal deadline, did not arrive due to a delay by the post office. For this reason, the divulging of the semifinalists will be postponed for 10 days.

2010 – Bicentennial of the Birth of Frédéric Chopin
Due to this important celebration, the Organizing Committee of the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina will offer a U$ 1,000 prize to the best interpreter of the compositor’s work in the Semifinal or Final stage of the Competition.

The Keyboard Trust
The Organizing Committee of the Santa Catarina International Piano Competition is honored to be able to announce a new partnership with the Keyboard Charitable Trust in London which offers international performing opportunities to the most able young artists (see www.keyboardtrust.org). The renowned pianist Noretta Conci-Leech (Artistic Director) and Mr John Leech (Chairman of Trustees) will be present at the Competition to select the winner of the Prize. It is important to note that this selection will be wholly independent of the Competition Jury and will have no influence on their considerations. “The Trust will offer The Keyboard Trust Career Development Prize to the Finalist or Semifinalist deemed best able to benefit from the opportunity to perform internationally. The Prize consists of one or more concerts in London or elsewhere plus US $ 2,000 in cash (to include costs of travel).” John Leech

Schumann
In 2010 the classical music world celebrates the 200 years of the birth of the German composer Robert Alexander Schumann. For this reason, the Organizing Committee of the I International Piano Competition of Santa Catarina has decided to include in the Final Stage repertoire one of his works, the “Piano Quintet, Op. 44”. The candidate who has the best performance will receive a special prize in cash, corresponding to U$ 1,000. |
